The place can be hot during the summer months when temperatures are often above 100 degrees.
Renowned Swiss artist Ugo Rondinone’s colorful large-scale, public artwork Seven Magic Mountains is an exhibition located in the desert outside of Las Vegas, Nevada, featuring seven, 30 to 35-feet high dayglow totems comprised of painted, locally-sourced boulders.
Ugo Rondinone has created seven painted boulder totems that measure up to 35 feet high in a desert art installation. Ugo Rondinone, a well-known Swiss artist, created Seven Magic Mountains, a large-scale public art installation in Nevada. It features seven dayglow totems that are 30 to 35 feet high and made of locally-sourced boulders. Seven Magic Mountains is visible along Interstate 15 in the desert and offers an artistic critique of Las Vegas' simulacra. Rondinone says that the site is symbolically and physically midway between natural and artificial.
The natural can be expressed through the desert and mountain ranges and Jean Dry Lake background. While the artificial can be expressed by highway traffic and constant movement between Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Rondinone believes the road is artificial and natural. Seven Magic Mountains was produced by Nevada Museum of Art in Reno and the Art Production Fund of New York. The installation site can be found approximately 10 miles from the intersection of Las Vegas Boulevard in Henderson and St.
