About Keyhole Canyon (Mt. Zion Utah)

This Canyon was originally known as Starfish Canyon because the topo map shows legs running in several directions; until the late 1990s, its name changed into Keyhole Canyon.

It is a technical canyoneering adventure that requires 2 hours slot to complete. This route requires complete technical gear for rappelling and downclimbing skills to navigate through the Keyhole Canyon.

A permit is required to do this route since the National Park Service limits the access to the Canyon to 50 people a day and makes it sure to constantly check the weather conditions before hiking because of the high risk of flash floods in the slot canyon.

Keyhole Canyon is a wonderful skinny slot canyon adventure with an easy and quick approach and exit.

Zion National Park Zion National Park is the brightest among the impressive Southern Utah collection National Parks and National Monuments. Its visitors enjoy its vertical grandeur, which contrasts with the Grand Canyon in Northern Arizona. Zion National Park features eight layers of sandstone, towering cliffs and deep red canyons that are unlike those in Arizona. It also has attached mesas with buttes, massive monoliths, and other unique geological features. It took eight-hundred-million years of Earth time to carve and mold Southern Utah and attached Northern Arizona as both make up the grand staircase geology as well as Utah s Cedar Breaks National Monument and Bryce Canyon National Park.

Most visitors only travel through the extensive system of scenic byways in Southern Utah, which includes highway 9, also known as Zion-Mt. Carmel Scenic Byway. Others jump in slot canyons and trails to find the hidden treasure. Southern Utah.

The National Park Service of Utah, Federal BLM System, and Utah entertain Zion National Park visitors with information and education. From the North, take I-15 South past Beaver. Take exit 20.

Continue on US-89 until Mount Carmel Junction. Follow SR-9 until you reach Zion's east entrance. Arizona: Take US-89A from Arizona to Fredonia, Arizona or Kanab Utah. Continue on US-89 until Mount Carmel Junction.

Follow SR-9 until you reach the park's east entrance. Take South Travel I-15 North. Continue on SR-16 through Hurricane until you reach La Verkin. Keep going on SR-9 until you reach the south end of the park.

The Zion National Park SR-9 is open year-round. It is also known as the Zion Mount. Carmel Highway. Limit RV Size I agree with another canyoneer's view about the Zion Narrows.

This is the Granddaddy among all US slots canyons. It is owned by Zion National Park in Southern Utah, home to many slot canyons. The soft rocks found only in Southern Utah and Northern Arizona are the source of slot canyons. Lodging and other services can be found on the beautiful east side of Zion National Park.

The Scenic Byway 89 takes you to Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park, which is 85 miles away from Mount Carmel Junction. This park, along with other monuments, and byways, provides a gateway to Southern Utah's true beauty. It is a great way to return to Utah and Zion National Park.

You can hike, camp, pack, go on a backpack, snorkel, paddle, kayak, or canyoneer in Zion Canyons, Kolob Canyons and Kolob Terrace. Carmel Highways, also known as Utah Route 9. It was short and simple. When we arrived, there was a lot of snow. This is only for canyoneering people. You cannot hike with no gear. Winter swims require thick, waterproof wetsuits.
