About La Madre Mountains Wilderness Area - Red Rock, Las Vegas

La Madre Mountain Wilderness Area is one of the largest wilderness areas in Southern Nevada that consists of 47,180 acres covering a part of Clark County, Nevada, that lies just west of Las Vegas, between that city and Mount Charleston.

The Mountain is a traditional home of the Western Shoshone, Southern Paiute, and Chemeheuvi, who has lived on and with these lands for countless generations. It features numerous trails and opportunities for rugged, backcountry wilderness exploration.

The range was formed by a Keystone Thrust Fault where the land was compressed along a fault line. This compression caused buckling, resulting in older limestone rock being pushed up and over a younger stone.

Incredible hike. It took me eight and a half hours. It was incredible to finally reach the summit. I've done Turtlehead Peak hiking several times. The amazing views over Las Vegas and Mt Charleston are breathtaking.

La Madre is the highest peak overlooking Summerlin. It almost looks like a hill near Harris Springs Road Kyle Canyon. The white scarbit at the summit looking west seems to suggest that UFOs or black ops aircraft might be flying from some hidden base.
