About La Madre Spring

La Madre Spring Trail follows the unpaved section of Rocky Gap Road in the La Madre Wilderness Area as it runs up a canyon with red and white sandstone cliffs on the side and gray limestone on the other.

The trail starts at the Willow Spring Trailhead with a picnic, vault toilets, and a short way up will pass by a prehistoric kitchen. Parts of the hike are strenuous, as the trail climbs some 700 ft in only 1.8 miles and for a roundtrip distance of 3.64 miles.

The trial hike ends at the concrete dam built in the 1960s  to store water for cattle and domestic use.

This nice hike follows an old road up a canyon with red and white sandstone cliffs on one side and gray limestone mountains on the other. The trail takes you to La Madre Spring where you’ll see water for wildlife and a pleasant contrast with the desert environment. The vegetation in the canyon is fairly dense, and the pinyon pine, juniper, and scrub oaks actually feel like a forest.

Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area RRCNCA can be found just a few minutes west of Las Vegas. It covers 195,819 acres in the Mojave desert. Red Rock Canyon is a world-renowned area of geologic beauty and interest. Increased visitor numbers can lead to increased injuries and damage. Read More September 1, 20,22.

There are tons of gravel throughout the entire trail. A nice place to have a picnic halfway up is a cool spring at the trail's end.

This trail is great for those who don't want to hike, but prefer to take a walk in the wild. It can be difficult but everyone can complete it.

This is a easy hike in red rock in the white rock area Interesting boulders near the beginning of the trail which then leads up through a forest brush area The end of the la madre hike is somewhat underwhelming with a small spring at the end Nevertheless the hike itself is enjoyable Good for when you aren t trying to exert yourself too much
